APC Govs Split Over Oyegun’s Tenure Extension As Meeting Ends In Deadlock


LAGOS APRIL 3RD (NEWSRANGERS)-Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday disagreed over the proposal by President Muhammadu Buhari that the tenure extension granted to members of the party’s National Working Committee, headed by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, should be withdrawn.
The development led to the meeting of the governors with President Muhammadu Buhari ending in deadlock at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting, which started at about 2:15pm, was said to have ended abruptly at 3:30pm when the governors could not agree on the way forward.
According to sources, the meeting became rowdy as the governors tried to make their positions known.
None of the governors who attended the meeting agreed to speak with newsmen as they left the venue.
Governors who attended the meeting included Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Jubrilla Bindow (Adamawa), Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Abdufattah Ahmed (Kwara), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano), Tanko Al- Makura (Nasarawa), Kashim Shettima (Borno) and Rochas Okorocha (Imo),
Others included Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos), Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Abubakar Sani Bello (Niger), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara), Simon Lalong (Plateau), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna) and Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun).
