Tension As Ogun Residents Bicker Over Shutdown Of Power Supply

LAGOS MAY 15TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Tension has engulfed communities in Ifo, Ewokoro and other parts of Ogun State, following the cut-off in power supply to residents of these communities in the last one month.

Our correspondent gathered that since April this year, most residents in the communities of the local government areas have not been able to enjoy steady power supply, even though they were paying thier electrify bills.

A resident of Alafia community, around Vesper bus-stop along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, Babatnde Henry, lamented that in the past one month, he has spent thousands on naira to power his generator, in order to continue to stay in his business as a business centre operator.

The views of BabatUnde was also supported by Omotosho Duke, a local security  commander attached to Tecno Mech Nigeria Limited, located at Techno bus-stop, Ifo in  Ogun state Most of the people and residents of Ewekoro and Ifo communities lamented that they are spending unbudgeted money daily to power thier homes, offices,business outfits and other concerns that requires constant power supply.

Rev Fr Anthony Otegbola, parish priest of St Mary Catholic Church, Alaja, Ifo, during the Sunday mass yesterday appealed for financial and other supports to buy fuel to run activities of the church.

At Itori police station, our reporter observed that police officers were fanning themselves at the counter and their various officers, while some of them were forced by the  heat to relocate outside their offices to receive fresh air.

But, a senior officer at the Ibadan Power Distribution office at Vesper bus stop, who spoke off records, since he was not authorized to speak with journalists said that the April 28,2025 rainstorm that engulfed parts of Ogun state destroyed two PHCN transformers and other equipment.

“ Since then, we have been battling to fix the destroyed equipment. He however promised that n the next few weeks residents of communities under their area of operations would. have cause to smile as powered supply could be restored CT,” he disclosed.
