Suspended Rivers Gov. Fubara, His Family Relocate To Bayelsa Govt House
LAGOS MARCH 23RD 9NEWSRANGERS)-Following the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his family have reportedly relocated to the Bayelsa State Government House. This move comes amid escalating political tensions and power struggles in Rivers, which prompted President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action.
On March 18, 2025, President Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months in a bid to restore stability. The suspension follows a prolonged political crisis, largely stemming from a bitter feud between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. This conflict has led to violent clashes, governance paralysis, and legal battles, severely destabilizing the state.
In response to the unrest, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has offered refuge to Fubara and his family. The relocation, which took place on Wednesday morning, saw the family leave the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt. Though security at the building has been scaled back, a few Armoured Personnel Carriers and a small security presence remain.
To further stabilize the region, President Tinubu appointed former Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas, as the administrator for Rivers State, tasked with overseeing the state’s governance during the six-month emergency period.
