SSS Allegedly Grills Embattled Ex-EFCC Boss’s Two Brothers, Seizes Bulletproof Car

EFCC-BAWA

LAGOS SEPTEMBER 5TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The State Security Services, SSS, has reportedly invited two brothers of the suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, for questioning.

Mr Bawa was suspended indefinitely from office by President Bola Tinubu on June 14.

The presidency said the suspension was to allow for a thorough investigation into his conduct while in office, following “weighty allegations” of abuse of office against him.

Since then, Mr Bawa has remained in the detention of the secret police without prosecution.

This has led to calls from eminent Nigerians, including lawyers and civil society organisations to press for his release or prosecution in a competent court of law.

However, DAILY NIGERIAN reliably gathered that the SSS recently invited Mr Bawa’s two brothers, Yazid Bawa (who also works at the EFCC) and Bashir Bawa (who works at NCC) for questioning.

Insiders told DAILY NIGERIAN that the security agents seized a bulletproof car and a latest Mercedes-Benz allegedly found with the Bawa brothers.

The secret police also grilled the chief of staff to the embattled EFCC chairman, Hadiza Gamawa, alongside his legal adviser, U.U. Buhari.

The suspects were reportedly detained on August 25 and released a few days later.

On August 31, the SSS operatives also arrested Mr Bawa’s personal assistants, Rufa’i Zaki, and Daniela Jimoh.

Unconfirmed report has it that Mr Bawa’s father was also invited for questioning, but DAILY NIGERIAN couldn’t verify the claim at the time of filing this report.

Although the spokesman for the SSS, Peter Afunanya, dismissed report as “fake news”, multiple security sources, however, confirmed the arrests to our correspondent.
