Ronaldo Wins Euro 2020 Golden Boot As Juve Players Set Record For Goals

And with more players from Juventus at the tournament, the more chances for the club to see their representatives do some things.
Do things they did.
Juventus players racked up 12 goals at Euro 2020, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring five goals and finishing atop the Golden Boot standings to lead all scorers at the tournament. And, to make things even better or the Juventus contingent, Leonardo Bonucci’s game-tying goal in Sunday’s tournament final against England was the 12th goal a Juve player scored at Euro 2020, eclipsing the record for one club at the European Championship (via TuttoJuve.com). The previous record of 11 goals was held by Barcelona’s contingent at Euro 2000
The list of Juventus goal scorers at the Euros is as follows:
- Cristiano Ronaldo — 5 goals
- Alvaro Morata — 3 goals
- Federico Chiesa — 2 goals
- Leonardo Bonucci — 1 goal
- Aaron Ramsey — 1 goal
(Sorry, Merih Demiral. Your own goal against Italy in the tournament opener does not count on this list. Better luck next time.)
It’s interesting when you see that list because Morata’s performances were largely criticized despite the three goals while Chiesa, who had two goals (albeit two very important goals), was easily one of Italy’s best players and only seemed to get more and more important to the Azzurri’s success as the tournament went on. Morata, obviously, was under a massive amount of pressure to be the guy to lead Spain’s attack, and while he did produce some pretty important goals for his team it didn’t equate to escape the criticism and unwarranted (and undeserved) harassment.
Ronaldo and the Czech Republic’s (and former Juventus transfer target) Patrik Schick both finished with five goals, but it was the former’s one assist in the tournament that allowed him to be award to Golden Boot for Euro 2020. Ronaldo also had a better goal-per-minute ratio than Schick, whose Czech Republic squad advanced one round further than Portugal.
The 36-year-old Ronaldo also broke records during his four-game stay at Euro 2020. His brace in Portugal’s win over Hungary allowed him to surpass Michel Platini’s European Championship goal record, with his tally now standing at 14. While appearing in a record fifth European Championship tournament, Ronaldo also tied Iran’s Ali Daei for most international goals by a men’s player with 109.
