Police Launch Mahunt For Gunmen Who Attack Bullion Van, Kill Four Policemen
LAGOS JULY 29TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Ebonyi State police command have declared manhunt for armed robbers who killed four police men, injured two after attacking a bullion van at Ezzamgbo junction in Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi state.
The van was moving money from Enugu to Abakaliki.
It was gathered that the hoodlums attempted to intercept the bullion van at busy Junction where the state government is currently building flyover, and killed the police officers.
The armed Robbers in a bid to intercept the van and cart away the money in it, first fired at the escort van carrying the Policemen before hitting on the bullion van tire.
Four of the Police officers were killed in the process while two sustained degrees of injuries.
Contacted, Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Philip Maku confirmed the incident.
He said, the robbers trailed the van from Enugu state.
He said the robbers were not able to loot the van as the driver managed to drive the van out of the area.
“They damaged one of the tires of the Bullion van but the driver was able to escape with the van. They could not give chase to the van as the driver was driving towards the Military checkpoint ahead”
The CP said the two injured Policemen have been taken to hospital for treatment while the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary.
Maku said the Police has launched a manhunt for the fleeing robbers.
Correspondent reports that the ongoing construction at the Ezzamgbo junction led to steady traffic jam which gave the Robbers opportunity to attack the van.
