National Religious Broadcasters Kick Off 2022 Annual Convention With 3,500 Media Personnel In Attendant
LAGOS MARCH 9TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), an international association of Christian communications, kicked off its 2022 annual convention in Nashville this evening.
A press statement made available to Newsrangers revealed that no fewer than 3,500 broadcasters, journalists, producers and representatives of media organizations gathered at the Gaylord Opryland to kick off a week of workshops and plenary sessions led by leading voices in Christian media.
It is one of the largest crowds to come together since NRB began gathering Christian broadcasters in 1944.
The evening opened with a call to live out the Great Commission. The Honorable Sam Brownback, former U.S. ambassador at large for international religious freedom, spoke during the Great Commission Forum about ways Christian media can defend religious freedom and encourage persecuted believers.
“It is absolutely essential that the United States stand up for religious freedom if we want to win on this issue,” Brownback remarked. “We have to stand up for our rights,” but cautioned it must be done in love, otherwise Christians are merely a “gong or clamoring cymbal.”
Bishop Eliudi Issangya, founder and president of The International Evangelism Center, then shared his experience with cross-cultural partnerships and exhorted ministries to do everything they can while doors are open in other countries.
The official opening session featured Michael Youssef, president of Leading The Way with Dr. Michael Youssef, and A. R. Bernard, founding senior pastor of Christian Cultural Center. Lauren Green, chief religion correspondent at Fox News Channel, was a special guest and encouraged attendees to lean on their spiritual walk.
“There is nothing more important than knowing God, because it will help you through every high, every low, every pain and sorrow,” Green said.
The evening also featured worship music by Tasha Layton, a BEC recording artist, and singer-songwriter Erskin Anavitarte. Allen Jackson, pastor of World Outreach Church, delivered a benediction and a special prayer for peace in Ukraine.
Troy A. Miller, CEO of NRB, delivered opening remarks emphasizing the distinctive calling for Christian broadcasters. “We are not just any kind of association. We are an association based on faith, and we recognize that all of our strength for what we do comes from the Lord,” Miller said.
Earlier in the day, NRB elected new officers to its executive committee: Frank Wright of BBS & Associates will serve as chairman and Michael Farris, president and CEO of Alliance Defending Freedom, as first vice chair. The second vice chair is Roger Lonnquist, president of Your Network of Praise. Sharon Geiger, assistant manager and outreach director at KCBI-FM, was elected secretary, and Brett Larson, general manager of Crawford Media Group, treasurer. Executive Committee Members at Large include: Debra Fraser of Total Living Network, Tony Hart of GOGF Ministries, Jack Hibbard of The Hibbard Group, Lauren Libby of TWR and Star Parker of CURE.
The convention will continue Wednesday with forums on media censorship and education, as well as a special invitation-only dinner with Senator Rick Santorum, among other events.
