FALCONS SUPER

LAGOS AUGUST 20TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The Federal Government of Nigeria gave each player of Super Falcons the sum of Ten thousand dollars $10,000 (equivalent of N200 million for al the 23 players).

First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu invited the Super Falcons to the Presidential Villa few days after she did same to D’Tigress.

Super Falcons defender OsinachI Ohale said the team has never had it so good after each player was rewarded with $10,000 for their exploits at the FIFA Women World Cup in Australia.

The Super Falcons bowed out of the tournament in the round of 16 after losing to England 4-2 on penalties, their performance was highly appreciated by Nigerians compared to their last outing at the Africa Women Cup of Nations in Morocco, where they came a distant fourth.

They thrived in group B of the world cup, in which they were given zero chance of progressing. They shocked hosts Australia 3-2, and drew with Olympic Champions Canada and Ireland.

“We are grateful for this unexpected gesture because for several years we’ve been winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) and I can’t remember us being honoured or rewarded this way,” the experienced Ohale told BBC Sport Africa. “We appreciate the federal government for their support and encouragement. And we also thank Nigerians for the remarkable support during the tournament. “Nigeria is a country where the public appreciates good things. When you do something good, they will show appreciation, and when you don’t do well, they will still show it – they will forget the good things you’ve been doing, so that’s how it is,” she laughed.

“I’m just happy we were able to put a smile on their faces.” The Super Falcons are also expecting to be paid $60,000 for reaching the round of 16 of the tournament.
