N900m Cash In EFCC Custody Disappears, Boxes Content Replaced With Papers
LAGOS OCTOBER 7TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The Federal High Court in Ibadan was in disarray as the Federal High Judge ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to produce the 106 boxes, containing the N900 million allegedly stolen by two bank workers. .The National Agency of Nigeria, NAN reports that the EFCC charged Bolade Ajuwan and Samuel Ogbiede alongside six officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria
.The apex bank employees were alleged to have compromised the CBN’s Briquette exercise, by stealing huge sums of mutilated higher denomination Naira currencies meant to be exchanged for new notes.
.The other bank workers were accused of being accomplices to the crime and also helping themselves to a sizeable chunk of the money.
.The accused all pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.
Justice P.I. Ajoku of the Federal High Court, gave the order after an EFCC witness, Saliu Kadir, testified alongside two CBN officials; Kolawole Babalola and Muniru Olaniran.
According to the EFCC, each of the 106 boxes was meant to contain N10 million of N1000 denomination. The Judges discovered that the EFCC officials have tempered with the boxes, which was discovered to be containing interleaves and lower denominations such as N100, N50, N20, and even ordinary papers instead.
The Federal High Judge has adjourned the case until December 2 and 3 for the continuation of trial.
The international community is hereby invited to endeavor to be present during the next sitting at the Federal High Court in Ibadan 2nd and 3rd of December, 2019 to witness the gross corruption by those employed by the government to curb corruption. So many of such cases going on within the EFCC, The judges on this case were transparent enough to request that the box be presented by EFCC, while in some cases such would have been swept underneath.
