Mikel Set To Dump Chinese Team For Fenerbahce
LAGOS JANUARY 23RD (NEWSRANGERS)-Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi may stage a return to Europe after reports suggested to Turkish giants Fenerbahce were keen sign him before the close of this January transfer window.
The 30-year-old moved to Chinese side Tianjin TEDA exactly one year ago after spending more than a decade at the English Premier League side Chelsea. He was linked to a return to England after Everton were believed to be interested in signing him but sources close to the former Chelsea midfielder denied the reports insisting that the Eagles’ skipper wished to see out his contract at TEDA.
However, the player has been linked with Fenerbahce in the past, and Sporx reports that the player’s management team has been looking into securing a move to the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.
It remained to be seen if the former Lyn Oslo of Norway player will make the move ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Russia. Fenerbahce are currently in a tight race for the Super Lig title in Turkey, three points behind leaders Istanbul Basaksehir, with Galatasaray also in contention.
The ‘Yellow Canaries’ currently have Africans Nabil Dirar, Aatif Chahechouhe and Carlos Kameni in their first-team squad.
