Major General, 7 Others Killed In Benue Community Crisis

LAGOS SEPTEMBER 15TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Unconfirmed report has it that a major general has been killed in the crisis rocking Ugboju district in Otukpo local government area of Benue state. Major General Lawrence Ugbo was reported to have been killed in a crisis which broke out in the district on Wednesday, September 13.
Seven other residents of the district were also said to have been killed while many others were left injured.
Some of the residents who spoke on the incident said crisis erupted in the district after some boys from Ugboju attacked a group of individuals loyal to the former chairman of the Otukpo local government area. The former chairman of the local government was reportedly in the community with some of his loyalists when a different group launched an attack on them.
The resident said during the attack, the major general was killed and his body burnt. Confirming the incident, the chairman of Otukpo local government area George Alli said, several persons lost their lives. Alli however, denied claims that the attacks were political.
He said: “Yes, I am there as we speak to take victims to the hospital. Several persons, including Maj Gen Lawrence Ugbo were killed and his body burnt to ashes. The clash has nothing to do with politics, it was a land tussle that cause the incident. I will get the whole and pass it across to you shortly.”
