Lassa Fever: Medical Expert Cautions Nigerians Against Consumption Of Garri
LAGOS JANUARY 24TH (NEWSRANGERS)-A report by Legit Naija has cautioned Nigerians to stop drinking ‘gari’ as per advice from a medical expert.
According to the post, the call to stop the consumption of ‘garri’ was made by Dr. Boniface Okolo, the director of Public Health, Enugu state.
According to him, this must be done to avoid contacting Lassa fever. The medical doctor gave the warning when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Saturday, January 18.
He argued that rats are most times in contact with Garri and that the rodents are the cause of the disease, Daily Trust reports.
Dr. Boniface Okolo revealed further that although adding hot water would kill the bacteria, he will be glad if its consumption is stopped.
