Kirikiri Customs Command Exceeds 2020 Revenue Target Within Eight Months
LAGOS DECEMBER 22ND (NEWSRANGERS)-The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has upped its game in the area of trade facilitation and consequently recorded a huge improvement in revenue generation.
At a media briefing this afternoon in the conference room of the Command, the Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Hammi Swomen disclosed that over the past eleven months (January to November), the Command has generated a total of #32.7 billion which represents a 65.6% increase over and above the corresponding period of 2020.
The CAC also disclosed that 3×40 foot container of Vegetable oil was seized including 1x40ft container of expired bottled water and 24x40ft of container of charcoal illegally meant for export, all with a duty paid value of #218.7 million.
Worthy of particular note is the fact that for the first time in record, the Command collected the sum of #4.3billion in one month, July. Again, by the end of August 2021, the Command had exceeded its total revenue generated for 2020.
A comparative analysis of the performance of the Command between January to November 2020 and January to November 2021 shows these percentages for 2021 over 2020, January +24%, February +.07%, March +45.4%, April +39%, May -17%, June +51%, July +63.2%, August +62%, September +30%, October +40% and November +51.3% .
In a question and answers session, Comptroller Swomen attributed the performance of the Command to the synergy between the Command and all the relevant government and security agencies, prioritization of trade facilitation, re-energizing of the Command’s dispute resolution mechanism, insistence on proper physical examination, stakeholders engagement and the cooperation within the command chain of the Nigeria Customs Service, he also gave credit to the the media. He continues to appeal for synergy and the cooperation of all and sundry.
The CAC took news hunters round the terminal to see the containers of seized items readily stacked for processing and further action.
