LAGOS OCTOBER 12TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Barely 24 hours after the excursion saga where five students of a private international school in Kaduna reportedly drown at Malali axis of River Kaduna, Police said the search team are still searching for them.
Confirming the development to Daily Trust in Kaduna on Thursday, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Aliyu Mukhtar, said the children together with some of their teachers were on excursion around Kaduna when the incident occurred.
According to him, “we were informed and we swung into action immediately and we were able to rescue some of them including two teachers.
“As we speak, we are collaborating with local divers searching for the missing children.
“They did not inform us when they were embarking on the excursion at least for security purpose but they informed us after the unfortunate incident. People should not take the security of their live and that of their children for granted. It is unfortunate and we are doing everything possible to search for the drown children”, he said.
Earlier, an unofficial report said the students and their teachers have visited water board at Malali, Kaduna North local government area from where they were planning to cross the river on a light boat which led to the saga.
“They visited water board during the excursion and thereafter, they were trying to cross to the other side of the river using available canoe. But due to the weight, the canoe capsized and all of them were affected. But people around who can swim save some of them while others are still missing”, the source said.
