Jonathan: Ex-President Obasanjo’s Visit To Me Is Unique

Goodluck Jonathan

LAGOS FEBRUARY 19TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Former President Goodluck Jonathan played host to one of his predecessors in office on Sunday and described the event as a unique opportunity.
Obasanjo was on a two-day visit to Jonathan’s Otuoke country-home in Bayelsa State.
Jonathan said the visit afforded him a unique opportunity to host the former president.
Jonathan spoke at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Otuoke Diocese, where they worshipped together in a large congregation.
Obasanjo had been in Bayelsa for the past three days to inaugurate some projects carried out by Governor Seriake Dickson’s administration.
He had, in company of the governor; his wife, Rachel, and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce (Bayelsa East), visited Jonathan and his wife, Patience, on Saturday, in their Otuoke village.
Jonathan said Obasanjo had promised to visit his village when he visited the former president’s hometown after leaving office in May 2015, adding that he did not know Obasanjo would soon fulfil his promise.
“It is a unique opportunity. Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo promised that he was going to visit my village when I visited his hometown after leaving office.
“But I did not know it was going to come at this time, but we have to thank Governor Seriake Dickson because Obasanjo was to come here only once.
“He was not to come to this village two times within a three-day programme, but the governor insisted that immediately he comes in, Obasanjo would come and see us, then of course, before he leaves, he will also come and worship with us,” he said.
Jonathan harped on the unity and oneness of Nigeria, condemning recent messages, particularly in the social media, portraying the country as if it was sitting on a keg of gunpowder that could explode one day.
He thanked Obasanjo for his visit and for worshipping with him in the church in his hometown.
