How Former Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr Plotted His Downfall
LAGOS DECEMBER 13TH (NEWSRANGERS)-A journey of more than five years with German coach Gernot Rohr came to an end yesterday, it’s so sad how the game ended for the coach. Basically on his achievements, he gave it his best shot for the Super Eagles.
He took the country to the World Cup in 2018 in which Nigeria was unlucky in qualifying out of the Group Stage. In the last AFCON competition, he brought the Super Eagles so close to winning the title. So when we consider all the input Rohr has made, he was a fair coach that should have won a trophy for Nigeria.
Rohr shot himself in the foot by making awful and blindsided decisions. He called back Odion Ighalo to the National team when the Super Eagles possess a lot of forwards who are on fire in Europe. The likes of Emmanuel Dennis and Taiwo Awoniyi. Two great strikers with amazing goal contributions this season. Emmanuel Dennis is even more of a playmaker, he could play side by side with Victor Osimhen and perform immensely. Rohr failed to summon these lads and it definitely cost him the job.
Chidera Ejuke and Samuel Chukwueze experienced a difficult moment under the German coach. He intends to keep on playing Moses Simon while these two upcoming stars struggle on the bench. Talk about the denial of a good football game, Ejuke and Samuel are some of the best Super Eagles dribblers at the club level. Ejuke showed Super Eagles fans every glimpse of amazing skills against Cape Verde in the first leg. He got benched afterward, a disheartening action that must have discouraged Ejuke. No doubt, Rohr gave Nigeria job his best shot. But it’s so unfortunate that he lost his job through his actions in the last couple of months. We all wish him well in the nearest future and hope he gets a new job before he retires from football.
