Former Ghanaian Footballer, Junior Agogo Dies In London
LAGOS AUGUST 22ND (NEWSRANGERS)-Former Ghanaian footballer, Junior Agogo, has passed away in a London hospital at the age of 40.
The Ghanaian football governing body announced his death in a tweet on Thursday.
“The Ghana Football Association is saddened by news of the sudden demise of ex-Ghana star Junior Agogo. On behalf of the Ghanaian football fraternity, we extend our sincere condolences to the family of our Black Star, Junior Agogo. May his soul Rest In Peace,” they wrote.
Junior Agogo suffered a stroke in 2015 and struggled with his speech afterwards, telling the BBC in 2017 he felt anxious about his language.
Born in Accra, Ghana, the striker spent most of his youth in the UK before returning to the country of his birth to complete secondary school studies.
He is fondly remembered for his standout performances for Ghana at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil, where he scored three goals in six outings in what would end in a third-place finish.
His notable contribution during the continental competition was his late match-winning effort that gave the Black Stars a 2-1 win over arch-rivals Nigeria.
He went on to score 12 goals in 27 international appearances.
