Eight Nigerians Nabbed With Forged Papers Inside Vehicle Driven By Libyan Citizens

LAGOS OCTOBER 24TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Eight Nigerians, comprising seven women and a man, have been arrested by the Libyan Police after they were found with forged documents while being driven from one part of the country to another by a citizen of Libya who was equally nabbed, according to report from Migrant Rescue Watch today.
The Migrant Rescue Watch, an international agency that reports attempts by migrants to cross into Europe from Libya, disclosed the development on its X handle today, saying they were arrested on Wednesday.
According to the agency, policemen in Brega, a city in Northeastern Libya, intercepted a vehicle and arrested the Libyan driver for an attempted human smuggling of undocumented migrants of Nigerian nationality.
It added that when they were searched, the seven women and the man from Nigeria were found in possession of forged Libyan documents which they used for the journey.
The Migrant Rescue Watch wrote: “During police interrogation, the driver admitted to transporting the migrants for financial gain (104 dollars per person) from Sabha to Benghazi. All remain in police custody pending referral to public prosecution.”
Many Nigerians who attempted to cross into Europe through the Mediterranean Sea have ended up in Libya while some of them were subjected to degrading and sub-human conditions in the North African country.
No fewer that 10,000 distressed and stranded Nigerians have been evacuated from the country and flown back into Nigeria within the past 10 months while many are still in Libya going through tough moments.
