Crowd Flocks To Fetch ‘Healing Water’ Amid Claims Of Prophet’s Footprints

LAGOS APRIL 24TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Hundreds of people are flocking to a water pool in the Hotoron Arewa area of Kano, Kano State, following claims that it flows from the sacred footprints of Prophet Muhammad.

Located in the Nassarawa Local Government Area, the site has turned into a spiritual hub, drawing visitors from within and outside the state, many of them seeking healing for various ailments.

In viral videos seen by PUNCH Online, residents, some chanting prayers, can be seen scooping the muddy water into bottles, splashing it on themselves, or drinking it with their hands.

“I came here with my mother, who has been battling a stroke for years. We heard the water can heal, and we didn’t want to miss this opportunity,” said Auwalu Musa, a resident of Gaya who spoke to PUNCH Online while helping his elderly mother into a tricycle.

“We believe it is from the Prophet, and that alone gives us hope,” Musa added.

Eyewitnesses said the situation has grown increasingly dangerous, with uncontrolled crowds and no formal regulation in place.

“This is becoming uncontrollable.

“Every day, new people arrive. Some have set up tents. They sleep here, pray here, and queue for the water. Sometimes fights break out over who gets access,” said Maryam Tijjani, a resident of Hotoron Arewa.

A local man, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the crowd began gathering after some youths reportedly discovered markings resembling human footprints at the site.

“They say the water started coming out from that exact spot.

“Since then, the news spread, and now people believe it is a sign from the Prophet,” he explained.

Despite the growing public interest and potential health risks, the Kano State Government, the Ministry of Health, and Islamic scholars have yet to issue any official response.

Health experts have warned of looming danger.

A Kano-based public health practitioner, Dr Nasir Sa’id, said drinking or bathing in untreated water could lead to disease outbreaks.

“This is extremely dangerous.

“The water is muddy, stagnant, and visibly unclean. Encouraging sick people to drink or bathe in it, without proper testing, poses a significant public health threat,” Sa’id said.

Nevertheless, the number of people at the site continues to swell, with many clinging to hope.

“This may not make sense to some, but when you’re looking for hope, you follow any sign that gives you peace,” said Halima Yusuf, who travelled from Jigawa with her three-year-old son suffering from a chronic skin condition.
