Conflict Looms In Ogun Communities Over Church Noise Pollution

LAGOS JULY 9YH (NEWSRANGERS)-There are strong indications that residents of Ilupeju communities in Ifo area of Ogun State are presently on a confict mode with one of the frontline female pastor operating a Church in the area.

Our correspondent got a tip that for years members  of Salvation Deliverance Ministries  are engaged in  series of night vigils that start about 12 midnight to morning. During the vigil night, it was alleged that   residents of the communities  located at the back of the Hausa communities, near Bank bus-stop, along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway  have to stay awake  throughout the night  due to the noise generated by the members  of the Church in  course of the  night vigil.

Although the Baale of Ilupeju communities  could not be reached for official comments on the issue, one of the CDA officials who spoke off records insisted that for years, the church has been disturbing the peace of those who are either resident or doing business in the various communities that make up Ilupeju.

The official disclosed that members of the communities have approached the overseer of the Church several times to mellow down on her frequent noise of the night vigil  without success.

A  vulcaniser, simply identified as Babatunde lamented that the noise of the   frequent night  vigils  are capable of causing health complications for hypertensive and people with stroke and high blood pressure.

Our correspondent who visited the communities further gathered that last year, some area boys, who used to meet at the communities to smoke and drink  threatened to burn the church over noise generated by  frequent night vigils.

Speaking with our correspondent on phone on Monday, Pastor (Mrs)  Bamiwo, who claimed to be the General Overseer of the Church said that the Church is  led by God at any point in time to conduct  nights vigils, stressing that since the demise of her husband 24 years ago, she  had  taken up the leadership  of the church.

While apologising to the residents of the Ilupeju communities, she stated that it is God that directs the  affairs of the church and not man, just as she  pleaded  that she will adjust and pray to God for a new direction and guidance on the  nights vigils
