A Lone Pilot Escapes Death With Injuries That Are Not Life Threatening In Plane Crash
LAGOS SEPTEMBER 10TH (NEWSRANGERS)-A small corporate plane crashed Friday evening in Busse Woods in Elk Grove Village, authorities said.
The crash took place about 3 miles west of O’Hare International Airport, according to a statement the Chicago Fire Department posted on social media.
The plane’s pilot was the only person on board during the flight. He was able to walk away from the scene and was treated at a nearby hospital for “injuries that are not life threatening,” said Carl Vogel, communications director for the Forest Preserves of Cook County.
The Forest Preserves Department of Resource Management and O’Hare Towing Service are working to remove the plane from the woods, Vogel said in an email Saturday. Nearby trails have been closed until the extraction process is complete, something local agencies hope to have done as early as Sunday.
“Every recovery is difficult, but we’re working on it,” a spokesperson for O’Hare Towing Service said on Saturday, noting he expects the removal to take around six hours.
The craft is being brought a short distance out of the forest and onto a road where it will be transported to a local storage facility for further examination, Vogel said.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane was a twin-engine Beechcraft BE20 and crashed around 7:15 p.m.
Elk Grove Village police and fire were assisting staff from the Cook County Forest Preserve in responding to the crash, according to the Police Department’s statement.
The National Transportation Safety Board is monitoring the situation.
