Court Annuls APC Gubernatorial Primary In Taraba State
LAGOS SEPTEMBER 20TH (NEWSRANGERS)-A Federal High Court in Taraba State on Tuesday nullified the state governorship primary election that produced Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 election.
The case was filed by one of the governorship aspirants, David Sabo Kente.
Justice Simon Amobeda in his ruling stated that it is not possible for all the primary results to have the same handwriting while the returning officer declared that no primary was held in the state at the police headquarters due to security threats.
Amobeda ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh governorship primary in the state within 14 days.
He also ordered INEC to stop recognizing Senator Bwacha as the candidate of the party.
The court ruled that Bwacha should in turn stop parading himself as the governorship candidate of the APC.
The counsel to Bwacha, Barrister Ibrahim Iffiong, reacting to the judgment said that he will study the judgment and consult with his client to decide if they will proceed with an Appeal.
Kente however described the court ruling as a landmark as it proves that the era of impunity is over.
He said that the evidence before the court which influenced the decision vindicated his position and that of most of the party supporters in the state that indeed there were no primaries and urged the party faithful to remain calm.
