Protest Rock Northern Nigeria Over US Killing Of Iran General
LAGOS JANUARY 5TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Less than 48hours after the death of Qasem Soleimani was announced by the Trump administration, hundreds of Nigerians in the northern part of the country took to the streets to protest his death.
Armed with a banner showing shots of Soleimani in military wear and mufti, and inscribed with hateful texts against America and Israel, the protesters marched angrily in protest of a man many in Nigeria never knew about till today.
The Pentagon had earlier announced that Soeimani was killed in an airstrike at Baghdad International Airport, taking escalating tensions in the region to new heights. Qasem Soleimani, the commander who was killed, was one of the most powerful and feared men in Iran. He was the leader of the Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force, which the US deems a foreign terrorist organization.
The protestors joined the Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in calling Soleimani a martyr and vowing revenge for his death.
As soon as the picture and details of the protest was leaked to social media, an uproar ensued.
Other Nigerians who do not share the same sentiments as the protesters began starting, in strong terms, their reservations.
Obinna Nwosu on twitter stated, “I hope these guys are well informed on who killed General Qassem Soleimani. I hope they also know it is not a Christian vs Muslim clash. Lessons from 1960s.”
