Fani-Kayode, Adeyanju, Others Dare Yemi Osinbajo Over Corruption Allegations
LAGOS SEPTEMBER 27TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Aviation Minister, together with other Nigerians have dared Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, over his claim of innocence on corruption allegations peddled against him.
Nigerians are clamouring for the resignation of Osinbajo which will enable a transparent probe rather than a promise to waive away his constitutional immunity.
The vice president was alleged to have misused about N90billion given to him for the preparation of the last general election.
This was allegedly said to be responsible for the recent redeployment of agencies under him in a bit to whittle down his powers politically.
While denying the allegation; Osinbajo promised to waive his immunity from prosecution in a bid to prove his innocence.
Some Nigerians are however not satisfied with the reaction of the vice president; calling on him to step down from office to give way for proper investigation.
Some are of the opinion that should he be found innocent, President Muhammadu Buhari should renominate him as his vice.
“If you are really a man don’t just waive your immunity to sue Timi Frank but RESIGN from your position and take him on man to man,” Fani-Kayode said in a tweet while reacting.
“He will eat you for breakfast. I know that young man; he is a real Ijaw! Deeply courageous and tough as nails. U cannot intimidate him or break him,” he added.
“If Osinbajo truly wants to waive his immunity; he should resign and submit himself to ICPC tomorrow morning for investigation,” said Deji Adeyanju.
“There’s nothing to fear. After investigation, Buhari will re-nominate him to National Assembly if he is corruption free,” the political activist said in reaction.
“Osinbajo is being disingenuous when he said he’d waive his “constitutional immunity” to allow for a fair probe of allegations of corruption against him,” tweets Farooq Kperogi.
“He can’t legally waive his immunity while still in office. That’s unconstitutional. Resign & d immunity will be gone by default!” Kperogi added.
In his reaction, former deputy national publicity secretary of the ruling party, Timi Frank; who is one of those who made the allegation and has been sued by the vice president; also asked the latter to step down and give room for a thorough investigation and unbiased prosecution in court.
“This is important so as not to influence the judiciary as well as use public funds to pursue the case as a sitting Vice President,” Frank said in a statement.
