Pregnant Woman, Two Daughters, Three Others Die In Jigawa Heavy Rainfall
LAGOS AUGUST 21ST (NEWSRANGERS)-Six persons have been killed following a heavy rainfall in Jigawa State, Daily Trust has gathered. Five persons died in Kirikisamma Local Government area while one other person was killed in a building that collapsed in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area.
A pregnant woman was among the dead persons, who were killed after building collapsed on them as a result of heavy down pour within the last three days in Jigawa state.
Over 600 others were also reported to have been displaced by the torrential rainfall and overflow of river Hadejia that affected the three local government areas in the state – Kirikasamma, Guri and Birnin Kudi.
The pregnant woman, Halima Mallam Manu aged 35 with her two children, Aisha Mallam Manu, four years old and Dauda Mallam Manu aged two, lost their lives after a their room caved in while asleep in Kuradige village in Kirikasamma LGA.
A couple, Musa Wakili, 45 and Hauwa Musa, 35, died after their room also collapsed on them while Fatsuma Musa aged 20 lost her life after their mud room cave in in Auno village of Kafin Hausa LGA. 100 persons from Guri LGA are taking refuge in the primary school of the town. The Executive Secretary of the Jigawa state emergency management agency (SEMA), Sani Yusuf Babura, confirmed the incident, said the number of death according to the report before him was four.
Also the state deputy governor, Umar Namadi told Daily Trust that the state government would look into the possibility of finding a lasting solution to the yearly flood disaster in the state.
