LAGOS JULY 19TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The crisis rocking the Lagos State Chapter of the APC took a new twist, yesterday, as hundreds of protesters stormed the Lagos Government House, Alausa, where they demanded for the expulsion of the party’s National Legal Adviser, Dr. Muiz Banire (SAN).
The protesters, who were mainly from Mushin Local Government, and Odi Olowo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of the state, stormed the governor’s office early in the day, singing protest songs, with placards reading: ‘Banire, The Greatest Beneficiary Of Imposition’, ‘Banire, Enough Is Enough’ and ‘Banire Must Go’, among others.
But shortly before the protest, Banire, who is also a former commissioner for 12 years in the state, had raised an alarm over alleged threats to his life and “possible sponsored protest” against his personality.
However, leader of the protesters, Mr Femi Martins, had denied being sponsored, insisting that their action was voluntary and that it was promoted by what they considered as Banire’s alleged series of anti-party activities.
Reading from the petition which they submitted to the office of the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, he said they considered Banire guilty of “intentional negligence in his duties as the national legal adviser, to defend APC and the party’s interest; and carrying out unauthorized publicity of a party dispute without exhausting all avenues for settlement or redress within the party.”
The Special Adviser to Governor Ambode on Communities and Communication, Hon Kehinde Bamigbetan, who received the protesters on behalf of the governor, assured that the letter would be delivered.
