LAGOS SEPTEMBER 13TH (NEWSRNAGERS)-The seeming prevailing peace in Osun after the conduct of August 15 gubernatorial poll was shattered on Sunday as gunmen reportedly shot dead one of the appointees of Governor Ademola Adeleke, identified as Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade.
Findings by The Guardian indicated that Emir was brutally murdered around 10:00 am during a gun duel which rocked motor parks in Mayfair, Sabo and Lagere areas of the ancient city of Ile-Ife.
One of the eyewitnesses informed our correspondent that the deceased, who led his loyalists was gunned down during a botched attempt to take over the control of motor park in Mayfair before the violence occasioned by the deadly confrontation spread to other motor parks in Sabo and Lagere.
Residents, shop owners and passerby near Mayfair where the chaos erupted fled the scene as sporadic gunshots rented the air for more than 20 minutes causing tension in the area.
A viral video sighted by The Guardian showed Emir, wearing a hooded cardigan drenched in blood with his corpse dumped inside a vehicle.
Responding to the development, Osun State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, ordered the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, to launch thorough investigation into the killing and fish out Emir’s killers.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor, who bemoaned the leadership crisis within factions of transport unions in the state, ordered immediate vacation of the motor parks by warring groups and the establishment of a Park Management System with immediate effect.
While calling for calm among the citizenry, Adeleke also directed security agencies to restore normalcy across the motor parks and ensure the maintenance of law and order across the state.
The statement reads, “Governor Ademola Adeleke promised to issue an Executive Order for the establishment of a park management system to restore discipline and orderliness across motor parks in the state.
“He charged the Commissioner of Police to act immediately to arrest all those involved. Law and order must be maintained. There will be no sacred cows as all culprits will be brought to book.
“We call on members of the public to remain calm. We will ensure restoration of peace in all the affected parks and areas. The security agencies are under instruction to ensure the sustainability of peace at all cost.
“We are reintroducing the Park Management System. I will soon issue an executive order to give effect to the new management system to manage parks and garages across the state”, the governor noted in the statement, “the statement concluded.
