LAGOS SEPTEMBER 5TH (NEWSRANGERS)-An Air Peace flight was disrupted for some time on Thursday, September 3, after a female passenger reportedly caused a scene aboard as she refused to disembark when she discovered that the seat assigned to her had also been given to another passenger while the airline claimed the flight was overbooked.
According to an Instagram user Kevin Mike, who said he was aboard the flight and witnessed the incident, the woman had boarded the aircraft and proceeded to the seat indicated on her ticket.
However, upon getting to the seat, she discovered that another passenger was already seated there and had also been assigned the same seat.
In a viral video shared on Instagram by Mike, the development sparked a confrontation, with the woman refusing to leave the aircraft and insisting that she had a valid ticket and must be allowed to fly.
Mike said airline officials subsequently attempted to resolve the situation by asking passengers if anyone would be willing to take the next available flight in exchange for a 50 percent discount.
He said no passenger initially volunteered to leave the aircraft, leaving the airline with no immediate solution as the two women reportedly refused to disembark.
The standoff allegedly delayed the flight, with other passengers forced to wait while airline officials sought to resolve the dispute.
“There was a situation on our Air Peace flight today @flyairpeace,” Mike wrote. “A female passenger was asked to wait for the next available flight because the aircraft was already fully booked. She refused and insisted that someone had taken her seat.
“The Air Peace staff then made an announcement asking if any passenger would be willing to volunteer to take the next flight in exchange for a 50% discount.
“No one volunteered. As a result, the flight has been delayed because the passenger is refusing to comply.”
A separate account by X user Somto Okonkwo, also confirmed that an Air Peace staff member asked whether any passenger would be willing to give up their seat for the next available flight in exchange for a 50 percent discount.
However, Mike and Okonkwo in their subsequent posts confirmed that two passengers eventually accepted the 50 percent discount offered by Air Peace and gave up their seats for the female passenger, allowing the flight to take off.
“Finally, two gentlemen left the aircraft for the two women holding us hostage. All thanks to Air Peace @flyairpeace, who promised them a 50% discount on their next trip, plus a complimentary cup treatment,” Mike posted.
Meanwhile, the origin and destination of the flight were not disclosed.
Efforts by SaharaReporters to confirm the origin and destination of the flight and get the comments of Air Peace on the incident failed.
At the time of filing this report, Air Peace’s spokesperson, Ejike Ndiulo, could not be reached on the phone, and had not responded to a message sent to him.
