LAGOS AUGUST 24TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Donald Trump has claimed he will be impeached if the Republicans lose the midterm elections in November.
The US president, campaigning in South Carolina, warned supporters that they would “lose everything” if Democrats took control of Congress for his final two years in office.
On Friday, Mr Trump described the potential outcome of the elections in unusually stark language as he faced the prospect of being unable to force through legislation or depend on a compliant Congress.
“I’m going to be impeached. They’re going to impeach me. They have no idea why,” the 80-year-old told supporters at a rally in Myrtle Beach. He is the only man in history to have been impeached twice, albeit unsuccessfully.
Many Democrats openly back impeaching Mr Trump for a third time, and at least three have introduced articles of impeachment against him in his second term, though to little effect.

However, according to The Wall Street Journal, the party is divided about impeaching the US president. Some are concerned about a backlash from voters, or overshadowing priorities such as lowering prices.
In the past, Mr Trump has sounded blasé about the midterms, in which the Democrats are widely predicted to win back control of the House of Representatives. Some pollsters narrowly favour them to regain the Senate as well.
On Friday, the US president claimed that if Republicans did not turn out, his political opponents would wreck the economy and take the opportunity to undo his achievements.
“If we lose, you’re going to lose your border, you’re going to lose your tax cuts, you’re going to lose everything that we’ve done,” he said.
“We’ve got the biggest tax cuts in history. Think about no tax on tips, no tax on social security for our seniors, no tax on overtime. All of that’s going to be gone.
“Your taxes are going to go up. Your pay is going to go down. Your jobs are going to be lost. They’re going to end up closing up. Your businesses are going to flee.”
Mr Trump was campaigning in South Carolina for Darline Graham, who was appointed senator in July following the death of Lindsey Graham, her brother.
She is running for re-election but failed to win her primary outright, and faces a run-off election on Tuesday. In a widely panned debate performance on Aug 25, she admitted in response to a question on Taiwan that she was “not that informed on national security”.
Ms Graham’s success has become critical to Mr Trump’s control of his own party. His endorsement was once feted as the most powerful weapon in conservative politics, but three of his hand-picked candidates lost their Republican primaries on Tuesday.
Speaking in South Carolina, Mr Trump urged his Maga base to “pretend” he was on the ballot, arguing that his political dominance was at stake even though he was not personally standing for election.
“They say ‘Trump does great when he’s on the ballot, but when he’s not on the ballot, his people don’t come,’” he said. “So what I really want you to do is pretend, please, that I’m on the ballot. Just come and vote.”
