Maritime Media Practitioners To Hold 2-Day AGM, Award Ceremony With Lecture On Maritime Security

 

LAGOS JUNE 21ST (NEWSRANGERS)-The Congress of Maritime Media Practitioners  (CONMMEP), a courageous and consistent Media Advocacy group has announced its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM), Lecture and Awards Ceremony. The event, themed -“Maritime Security, Trade Facilitation & The Media”, will hold over two days in Lagos.

As the nation is about entering electioneering season CONMMEP’s lecture aims at looking at dangers of proliferation of small arms and hard drugs and how this trend will be reduced to the barest minimum. The lecture would focus   on the role of the media  in encouraging security agencies at the borders especially the customs in curbing this menace.

According to the General Secretary, Mr. Lod Onyeji, the gathering will enable members to review the association’s activities, recognise outstanding contributions in the maritime industry, and chart a strategic course for the future.

Onyeji  disclosed that the first day of will hold Thursday, June 25, 2026 at   Presken Hotel, Awolowo Way, Ikeja, Lagos, opposite Lagos Airport Hotel  by  10:00 a.m.

Activities include a keynote lecture titled _”The Role of Media in Curbing Smuggling in Nigeria’s Maritime Corridor” to be delivered by renowned Maritime stakeholder, Fwrd. Eugene Nweke, PFF. An Awards Ceremony will also honour officers and individuals who have distinguished themselves through exceptional service to the maritime sector.

“The second day of the event will  be an Annual General Meeting (AGM) and  Strategy Planning Session. It will be communicated later. The session will be strictly internal and would provide a platform for members to deliberate on the growth, development, and future direction of the association.

“The Secretariat urges all members to attend both sessions punctually and participate actively. Members are expected to be seated before the commencement of activities, and attendance will be strictly recorded for proper documentation,” the statement read.

Speaking on the significance of the event, CONMMEP President, Mr. Udo Onyeka, stated that the AGM remains a vital forum for strengthening professional collaboration among maritime media practitioners and for advancing initiatives that support the maritime industry.

Members are encouraged to make adequate arrangements to attend and contribute meaningfully to discussions that will shape the future of CONMMEP and maritime media practice.
