“2027: Coalition Excluding Peter Obi Will Certainly Fail”

LAGOS JUNE 4TH (NEWSRANGERS)-A former governorship candidate in Anambra State and diplomat, Oseloka Obaze, has cautioned that any political coalition formed ahead of the 2027 general elections that excludes Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, is bound to falter.

Obaze, a close ally of Obi and former Secretary to the State Government in Anambra, made this assertion during an interview with Arise Television on Tuesday. Speaking candidly on Nigeria’s political trajectory, he said that for any meaningful coalition to take shape, it must rise above personal ambitions and partisan loyalties.

“Any coalition going into 2027 that excludes Peter Obi will almost certainly fail,” Obaze said, explaining Obi’s centrality to any serious opposition strategy in the next electoral cycle.

While acknowledging the widespread yearning for national reform, Obaze lamented that Nigeria’s political culture remains deeply transactional. He urged political leaders to embrace a more values-driven, people-centred vision.

“Politics in Nigeria has become too transactional. We need purpose-driven leadership. We need to ask: what legacy are we leaving for the next generation?” he said

Reflecting on his recent departure from the Labour Party, Obaze was frank about the internal disarray plaguing the party he once helped build. He cited irregularities, systemic corruption, and an absence of leadership discipline as reasons for his exit.

“The Labour Party lacks the structure and leadership capacity to drive the ideals of a new Nigeria. There is too much disregard for internal processes and the rule of law,” he said.

Despite stepping away from partisan politics, Obaze reiterated his commitment to national development and political reform. He called on political actors across the spectrum to prioritise competence, integrity, and the welfare of citizens as the country prepares for another critical election season.

“The work ahead requires unity, not ego. Leaders must be willing to make personal sacrifices and put the country first,” he concluded.
