Peter Obi Boosts Healthcare, Education In Ogbaru With N5m

LAGOS APRIL 23RD (NEWSRANGERS)-Mr Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, visited St Luke Diocesan Hospital on Tuesday and donated N5 million to fund a major laboratory upgrade, pledging further support. The hospital is owned by the Anglican Diocese of Ogbaru under the leadership of the Right Reverend Prosper Amah.

Receiving the cheque, Bishop Amah called it “a transformative investment in community health.” Obi, renowned for his fiscal prudence and commitment to public service, emphasised that modern diagnostic tools are essential for timely, accurate patient care. “This upgrade will save lives,” he said, promising to monitor progress and provide additional assistance in due time.

Obi also toured El Sharon School, housed within the hospital’s expansive compound. Impressed by the school’s achievements despite limited resources, the former Labour Party standard‑bearer promised to return with support for infrastructure improvements in the school.

Obi was accompanied by Prof  Stella Chinyere Okunna and Hon. Afam Ogene, the federal representative for Ogbaru Federal Constituency. Both dignitaries praised Obi’s integrated approach to strengthening health and education in the country. Hon. Ogene appealed to him to consider Ogbaru as a priority area and assured that he would keep supporting within his own ability.

Speaking to the press after the event, Obi reiterated his belief that investment in healthcare and education as well as lifting people out of poverty are the cornerstone of sustainable development. He said: “By empowering our hospitals and schools, we invest in the well‑being and future of our people.”
