Delta Frm Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa Honored EFCC Invitation, Not Arrested

LAGOS NOVEMBER 6TH (NEWSRANGERS)-During the week, news of arrest of immediate past Delta state Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa filtered in with the caption; ‘Okowa Arrested by EFCC’.
For information of the reading public, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa wasn’t arrested but invited by Operatives of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to answer questions bothering on how his administration spent an alleged 1.3trn being 13% derivation funds accrued to the state during his two terms as Executive Governor of the state as alleged.
On receipt of the invitation letter, Dr Okowa immediately proceeded to avail himself at the Port Harcourt unit of the EFCC after attending a program on Sunday in Ughelli, Delta State.
However, it is traditional that whether submission on self recognition or by arrest, an accused has to be in the EFCC custody while been quizzed as the case may be.
Okowa is currently answering to questions raised by the commission following petitions from those seeking an explanation of the former governor on how the alleged fund was appropriated by his government.
As a former Nigeria’s Senator and two terms governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa understands the importance of obedience to law demonstrated his willing to provide answers to any question raised regards his administration from 2015- 2023 hence without wasting time, he showed up at the EFCC office to help the commission commence immediate investigations.
As to the said crime, it remains a mere allegation until otherwise proven.
The accused, was a Senator of the federal republic of Nigeria between 2011 and 2015, Executive Governor of Delta state between 2015 and 2023 and was the running mate to Nigeria’s former Vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election.
