Super Eagles Coach Eguavoen Rubbishes Report Of Resignation

LAGOS SEPTEMBER 11TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The reports circulated on social media hours after Nigeria was held to a goalless draw in their second AFCON 2025 clash against the Amavubi of Rwanda on Tuesday afternoon.

However, the former Super Eagles defender quickly dismissed these reports, describing them as unfortunate and incorrect moments after he landed in Abuja from Kigali.

“It is quite unfortunate that people just trigger something that is not correct and in the situation we are in now we don’t need negative stories,” Eguavoen stated.

“I only talked about sitting down with the hierarchy of the Federation after these two games (against Benin Republic and Rwanda) and we see how we would prosecute the next games.”

Eguavoen expressed his concern about the spread of misinformation, saying, “When I saw that story I was kind of worried and concerned that whatever people are reeling out is not correct.”

He reassured fans and stakeholders of his continued leadership, emphasising, “I am still very much in charge, I am the technical director in the NFF, saddled with the responsibility of taking the Super Eagles at this moment and that is where we are.”

This statement from Eguavoen puts to rest speculation about his position and reaffirms his commitment to leading the Super Eagles through their current campaign.

Eguavoen says he remains in charge of the Super Eagles but will sit with the NFF for further talks.

The Nigerian football legend was called up as a quick replacement for German coach Bruno Labbadia, who had been confirmed as the Super Eagles’ new permanent boss following the shock resignation of Finidi.

However, Labbadia’s reign hardly took off, with the NFF swiftly moving to the technical director on an interim basis, alongside two of NPFL’s best coaches in Rangers Fidelis Ilechukwu and Daniel Ogunmodede of Remo Stars.

Eguavoen and his coaching crew went on to impress Nigerians in the two AFCON 2025 qualifiers, picking four points from a possible six against the Cheetahs of Benin at home and Rwanda away to close the international window on a high.
