Ofili Weeps Profuse Without Anyone To Console Her After 200m Sprint Disappointment

LAGOS AUGUST 7TH (NEWSRANGERS)-In a heart-wrenching moment at the Paris Olympics, Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili was seen crying after her 200m final, highlighting the lack of support from AFN.

Osasu Obayiuwana, Times Radio pundit and former FIFA Anti-racism taskforce, shared the emotional experience through a post in a group chat, relaying the sentiments of a Kenyan colleague present at the event.

The colleague described how Ofili, distressed and visibly shaken, went through the mixed zone, recounting the recent challenges she faced.

These included the shock of discovering she was not registered for the 100m event.

The emotional toll was compounded by the absence of a Nigerian media officer or team support, leaving Nigerian, Ghanaian, and Kenyan journalists to step in and console the young athlete.

This incident drew stark comparisons with the Kenyan team’s handling of a similar situation.

When Kenyan athlete Faith Kipyegon faced a trying moment, the Kenyan media officer promptly provided support, ensuring she was taken to a private area to calm down.

The lack of immediate support for Ofili has sparked criticism and calls for improvement in the Nigerian team’s management and athlete care.

Observers and journalists have emphasized the importance of having dedicated personnel to support athletes during such critical times.
