Canadian High Commission In Abuja Remains Closed Till Further Notice
LAGOS FEBRUARY 26TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The High Commission announced via its X account, (formerly Twitter) on Sunday that the suspension was still in place.
The Canadian High Commission in Nigeria has said that the closure of its office in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, to the public will remain till further notice.
The High Commission announced via its X account, (formerly Twitter) on Sunday that the suspension was still in place.
It said, “The High Commission of Canada to Nigeria in Abuja remains closed to the public until further notice. However, all High Commission services – including immigration and consular – continue to be provided.
“If you require urgent in-person consular assistance, limited services are available temporarily at the British High Commission, in Abuja.
“For emergency consular assistance, call the Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa.”
The High Commission provides visa and immigration services for those seeking to visit or emigrate to Canada. It provides services to Canadians visiting and living in Nigeria and to Canadians in Equatorial Guinea, and Sao Tome and Principe.
Its services include adoption and surrogacy, birth abroad, citizenship services, marriage abroad, passport services, notarial services, studying abroad and visa and immigration services.
In November 2023, the Canadian High Commission announced that it had suspended its operations in Abuja till further notice.
The suspension followed a deadly fire incident that occurred at the office on November 6, 2023.
The fire incident claimed the lives of two people and left two others injured.
Its November 2023 announcement read, “The High Commission of Canada to #Nigeria, in #Abuja, has temporarily suspended operations until further notice.
“For consular assistance, contact our 24/7 Emergency Watch and Response Centre.”
The High Commission of Canada in Nigeria, situated at 13010G, Palm Close, Diplomatic Drive, Central Business District in Abuja had caught fire.
Following the fire incident, a team of technical experts from Canada arrived in Abuja to conduct a formal investigation to determine the factors and conditions that led to the explosion that occurred at the High Commission.
The commission had said its visa application centres remained open in Abuja and Lagos.
