Lagos Police Parade 37 Suspects As CP Issues Security Tips For Residents

LAGOS JANUARY 18TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday, paraded 37 persons allegedly involved in cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, unlawful possession of fire arms and other crimes.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Adegoke Fayoade, who paraded the suspects and exhibits recovered from them equally issues security hints for the safety of Lagosians.
Fayoade advised Lagos residents to avoid talking openly in the public about their business transaction, just as he advised that they should avoid carrying large amount of cash or cheque books during business transaction.
He advised that they should prevent carrying expensive phones and devices about, stressing that if they have to attend an occasion of large crowd they should ensure that they keep those items save somewhere before going to the event.
Most importantly, the CP advised Lagosians to always armed themselves with the telephone numbers of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) nearest to them
“You need to know your DPO. It is very, very important. Familiarise yourself with the DPO so that when next anything is happening, the nearest person you call is your DPO. Have other security dedicated numbers you can call so that if anything is happening, we can make urgent response. Like I said earlier, our response is going to be very quick and fast.
As for those doing online internet business he advised, “You should verify facts about online marketing before making payments. You will discover that people make payment online for goods that were not supplied. Avoid shopping online from people you do not know. You do not know their offices. You do not know them. You do not know where they live and you send money to them. Some may live outside Nigeria. Some people live in US or Ghana and they communicating you online about business. Ensure you enable two factors authentication on all your social media accounts and devices. Avoid clicking suspicious links. Use strong password and ensure nobody have access to them.
“Be mindful of your post about yourself on social media. Some of us, we post everything we do at home on social media. The food we eat we post it on social media. All these things should be avoided. It gives us out and make us prey to all these criminals. Avoid posting your place of employment and residents. Ensure that your residents environment is well illuminated at all time so that you can see an approaching person to your house. If your place is not illuminated and bushes are not cleared, somebody will hide while you are coming in and give you a surprise.
“While driving in traffic, make sure your car doors are locked and wind up your windows. If you do have air-condition, wind the glasses of your vehicle windows to the extend that no one can be able to penetrate it.
“Ensure a thorough profile of all your domestic aides before employing them. Ensure that you have a clear view of your environment before you drive in. If you notice that some people are loitering around drive straight to the police station and tell them you are suspecting some people around your environment to avoid falling victim to kidnappers,” he disclosed.
While parading the 37 suspects, Adegoke explained that they are allegedly involved in cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, unlawful possession of fire arms and other crimes.
He said the suspects and exhibits recovered from them were achieved after he assumed duty about a month ago.
According to him, a total of 16 firearms, including 72 live cartridges, 75 live ammunition and one expended cartridge, were recovered from the suspects.
Other items recovered, according to him, are one pistol magazine, a toy pistol, six axes, four daggers, five cutlasses, two vehicles, one Point of Sale (POS) machine, fake vehicle number plates and charms.
Fayoade said that the paraded persons included three suspected leaders of a notorious cult group terrorising residents of Ikorodu, and three members of an armed robbery gang wearing military camouflage.
He said that the fake soldiers were arrested by the 9th Brigade of the Nigerian Army and handed over to the police.
The police boss said that 1,050 commercial motorcycles were also seized for contravening traffic rules and regulations.
He said that the motorcycles would be crushed soon.
He said that, to avoid explosions, some areas suspected to house explosives would be raided soon.
On autopsy on singer Ilerioluwa Aloba (a.k.a Mohbad), the commissioner of police said that the toxicology test was carried out in the U.S. He said that the police were waiting for the report.He assured that the report would be made public.
