Kirikiri Inmates Protest Forcible Administration Of COVID-19 Vaccine, Exorbitant Sale Of Foodstuff
LAGOS DECEMBER 29TH (NEWSRANGERS)-There is mounting anxiety over alleged maltreatment and forcible administration of COVID-19 vaccine on inmates of the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos.
Sources alleged that six inmates died after recent administration of the vaccine, while others exhibited speech disorder and abnormal behaviour.
According to sources, the inmates, as a result of the development, staged a mild protest, saying they would no longer accept the vaccine unless the nurses administering it used it on themselves. They alleged that the vaccination was a ploy to reduce their numbers through unnatural death.
Also, the inmates reportedly decried the exorbitant cost of foodstuffs, especially beans, sold to them by wardens at the market in the premises. They claimed the officials were selling at unreasonable prices, the items donated freely by federal and state governments and non-governmental organisations.
The inmates, therefore, called on authorities to intervene to avert an impending uprising at the centre.
However, the spokesperson for the centre, Oladokun Rotimi, denied the allegations, saying: “I’m not aware of this recent forcible administration of COVID vaccine on inmates. I think it is totally untrue.
“The last time COVID vaccine was administered on the inmates was in 2021 during the Federal Government’s drive against COVID-19. I do not think there is a recent drive to administer the vaccine on inmates, as to warrant death and mild protest.”
