Two Trainee Helicopters Worth N4.750bn ‘Missing’ In Nigerian College of Aviation Technology
LAGOS AUGUST 14TH (NEWSRANGERS)-There is discontent at the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, over the ‘missing’ two trainee helicopters acquired for the college by the Federal Government in 2010.
The current market value of the two equipment indicates $2.5 million (about N2.375 billion) each, totaling N4.750 billion.
This is as Daily Independent gathered that a serving senator from Kano State, Sen. Suleiman Kawo representing Kano South Senatorial District has activated the Freedom of Information Act to make enquiry from the college on the whereabouts of the Bell 206-L4 BZB and B2C-2061.4 equipment.
Also, Capt. Alkali Madibbo, the Rector of NCAT, in an interview with Daily Independent, confirmed that the equipment have been sold, but insisted due process was followed in their auctioning.
A source close to the Ministry of Aviation, confided in Daily Independent over the weekend that the two helicopters went missing from the aviation college about two weeks before the exit of Sen. Hadi Sirika as the Minister of Aviation.
The source told Daily Independent that the helicopters, which were meant for training of students at the college, were acquired during the time of Capt. Adebayo Araba as the rector.
It was also gathered that the college defended the acquisition of the brand new helicopters at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) led by Araba.
It was learnt that the crisis began when some instructors of the college discovered that the two helicopters were missing from the college without any trace and without any explanation offered by the management on their whereabouts.
