Rivers Police Neutralise Most Wanted Kidnapper, Lady, 2 Others During Gun-Duel
LAGOS JUNE 14TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Nwodi Onuigwe, Rivers State’s most wanted notorious kidnapper and leader of Iceland Cult group who had N2 million bounty on him, has been short dead.
He was killed along with his second in command and two others during a gun battle with police early morning of Tuesday, June 13.
The news of his death has elicited jubilation in many communities where the late Onuigwe had unleashing reign of terror.
Briefing journalists, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, said on June 13, 2023, based on credible intelligence, the police spotted a kidnap gang led by Onuigwe in Ogoloma, Okirika Local Government Area.
Emeka stated that on sighting the operatives, the hoodlums open fire leading to gun duel.
According to the Rivers Police boss, the late Onuigwe had been on watchlist of the Police due to his deadly criminal activities, including killing of policemen, innocent persons and kidnappings.
Also, due to constant attacks by his gang, some residents of Elibrada and environs had deserted their homes.
He Onuigwe and his gang were later confirmed dead at University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, UPTH, after he sustained serious bullet wounds.
The exhibits recovered include: AK 47 rifle, live ammunition, assault rifle, and pump action gun.
Emeka also revealed that, Dr Chidi Lloyd, the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area who had declared him wanted dead or alive and placed a bounty of N2million on him has redeemed the pledge.
Onuigwe has been linked to the kidnap of about 13 members of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, returning to Port Harcourt from the Ondo State Orientation Camp.
They were abducted at night in the month of May at Rumuji axis of the East-West road in Emohua Local Government area.
He was said to have masterminded the abduction of Justice Azunda the Protocol to Emeka Woke, former Chief of Staff to former Governor Nyesom Wike. Woke is now Commissioner-designate.
