LAGOS AUGUST 14TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has promised to liberate Nigerians from the shackles of poverty by making cash available to Nigerians if voted into power in 2019.
The chairman of the PDP’s caretaker committee, Ahmed Makarfi, made the pledge at the party’s special non-elective national convention in Abuja.
Mr. Makarfi said his party would make money available to Nigerians to save them from the unemployment, insecurity, and hunger unleashed on them by the All Progressives Party (APC). He accused the ruling party of bringing untold hardship on Nigerians, adding that the PDP would wipe Nigerians’ tears and deliver to them desirable dividends of democracy.
The PDP vowed to wrest power from the ruling party, stating that the former ruling party had rebounded and was ready to pursue policies that would take Nigeria out of recession.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan, who attended the convention, took a swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and insisted that the PDP remains the country’s largest party.
“The PDP is set to reclaim its position as a party to lead Nigerians to greatness. As in [any] human institution, we cannot claim to be perfect. No. Obviously, as a political party, our accomplishments up to 2015 are clear for everybody to see,” said Mr. Jonathan.
He debunked the suggestion that the national economy would have been in worse shape if the PDP had been voted into power in 2015, adding that the party had a competent economic team in place. He ruled out the speculation that the PDP would have plunged the country into economic crisis.
Also speaking at the convention, Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State quipped that Nigerians had entered a fraudulent government he described as “One Chance.” Said Mr. Fayose: “Nigerians entered ‘One Chance,’ and they have to go. In fact, they have gone. This arena is a testimony of what is happening in Nigeria. PDP is now a religion and a belief that we are going back to our Villa. These people inside there, they don’t know what they are doing. I called them ‘Power miss road.’ We will take you out of this ‘One Chance’ and give you many chances.”
Governor Fayose explained that the APC was out of focus with its campaign promises, noting that the PDP would rescue Nigerians from the hardship inflicted on them by the current ruling party.
A motion to extend the tenure of the caretaker committee will be moved and adopted by the delegates at the convention.
The PDP leaders attending the convention include former President Jonathan, former Senate President David Mark, Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Governor Fayose of Ekiti State Governor, and former Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State.
