2019: Nineteen Political Parties Plan Merger To Dislodge APC, PDP
LAGOS JANUARY 22ND (NEWSRANGERS)-Nineteen political parties are reportedly discussing a merger deal ahead of the 2019 general elections.
This was disclosed by the national chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), Dr. Onwubuya Breakforth. According to Breakforth, the parties are discussing a merger deal to form a ‘third force’ ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Breakforth told journalists in Abuja on Sunday, January 21, that the third force was necessary in order to dislodge the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, eliminate the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the polity and enthrone good governance in the country.
His words: “The merger deal will play the third force in the political activities geared towards 2019 and beyond. “
FJP is the coordinating platform of merger of mega of 13 previously, now 19 political parties, both old and new.”
Breakforth however declined to name the parties involved in the said merger. He went on to say the APC-led government had failed to deliver on its campaign promises, citing security challenges, fuel scarcity, unemployment, poverty in the land and many others as reasons for the planned third force.
He further said that the APC lacked sincerity and competence to administer Nigeria well, insisting there was need for Nigerians to dislodge the present government in 2019.
He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to cancel his recent appointments of chairmen and members of federal boards and agencies and compile a new one which should include at least a slot for each of the 68 registered political parties in the country.
Meanwhile, the deputy national chairman of the PDP, Yemi Akinwunmi, has asked youths of the party to populate social media and expose the failings of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration of President Buhari.
Akinwunmi gave the charge at an interactive session of PDP youth groups with the party’s national youth leader, S.K.E Udeh-Okoye, held at the party’s national office recently. According to him, the party would have little to do by way of campaigns if the youths flood the internet with the failings of this administration.
