Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has qualified for the women’s 100-meter hurdles final at the 2023 World Athletics Championship.

The Nigerian dipped at 12.56 seconds to finish first in heat three of the semi-final on Wednesday at the Nemzeti Atlétikai Központ, Budapest, Hungary.

Ackera Nugent of Jamaica took second at 12.60 seconds, followed by the Netherlands’s Nadine Visser who secured the third spot in 12.62 seconds.

Amusan had to recover from a slow start off the block to book her third consecutive World Athletics Championships finals.

The Nigerian hopes for a better performance when she defends her world title against Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, the Olympics champion, and USA’s Keni Harrison and Bahamas’ Devyne Charlton in the final billed for Thursday evening.

In the women’s 200m race, Nigeria’s Favour Ofili qualified for the semi-finals despite finishing fourth in her heat at 22.66 seconds.

She progressed after booking one of the fastest non-automatic qualification spots.

Ofili is sandwiched in semi-final heat that comprises Jamaica’s Sherika Jackson, Sha’Carri Richardson of the US, and Marie Ta Lou of Ivory Coast on Thursday evening.

In the men’s 200 meters, Alaba Akintola also booked a place in the semi-finals via a non-automatic qualification.
