Ronaldinho To Be ‘Set Free From House Arrest In Paraguay After Four Months’

LAGOS AUGUST 3RD (NEWSRANGERS)-Former Brazil and Barcelona star Ronaldinho is to be released after four months under house arrest in Paraguay, according to reports.

The 40-year-old Brazil World Cup winner was arrested for allegedly trying to enter the South American country on a fake passport in March.

Ronaldinho, along with brother and manager Roberto de Assis Moreira, were jailed on 5 March and were facing up to six months in prison, but they were released after 32 days in April.

The pair have since been under house arrest in the four-star Hotel Palmaroga, a number of hotels owned by Barcelona in Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay, after a £1.2million bond was reportedly paid.

But The Sun now claim that period too is coming to an end as Ronaldinho awaits his sentence for his role in the incident leading to his arrest.

The report also claims that prosecution have gathered together the majority of their case, but unable to find any further substantial evidence other than the fake passports, the brothers were set free.

The news comes a few weeks after reports in Brazil suggested his latest attempts to appeal against his house arrest had failed.

The Paraguayan authorities are also reportedly investigating the brothers over alleged money laundering.

The duo were reportedly caught at the Sheraton hotel in Asuncion with fake passports, which it is claimed they tried to use upon arrival in Paraguay.

The report in The Sun also says that while the passport allegedly was in Ronaldinho’s name, with his correct birthplace and date of birth, it claimed he was a naturalised citizen of Paraguay.

Ronaldinho is said to have previously held both Brazilian and EU passports, but there are claims that these have now been confiscated.

The former Barcelona and AC Milan star was said to be in Paraguay to promote the charity ‘La Fundacion Angelical,’ which provides medical assistance to low-income children.
