Maritime Stakeholders Jubilate As Tinubu Removes Ali As Customs Boss

Customs Boss Ali

LAGOS JUNE 21ST (NEWSRANGERS)-According to a news that was published by The Guardian Newspaper online, it was reported that some stakeholders in the maritime industry, have expressed happiness due to the removal of the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Hameed Ali, as they called for his probe for the destruction of trade facilitation in the industry and the Nigerian economy at large.

While the former member of the Presidential Committee on Destination Inspection and Ministerial Committee on Fiscal Policy and Import Clearance Procedure, Lucky Amiwero, was reacting to Ali’s compulsory retirement, he said that Ali’s removal was for the betterment of the maritime industry, and the economy at large, as he advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to avoid making such mistake of political appointment in the industry.

He said, “After Tinubu removed Ali as Customs boss, there was jubilation in maritime industry. He (Tinubu) should probe Ali’s activities in the Nigeria Customs Service because, a lot of things went wrong and he destroyed the maritime system as well. Customs is not a military service, it is a procedural service that has linkage with the World Customs Organisation (WCO). Ali does not know anything about Customs operations. So, he came to reform Customs, by destroying the entire system he met.”

Further talking, Amiwero said that, there was need for the re-organisation of the customs and probing his activities for the number of years he spent in the service.
