Dozens Killed, Hundreds Injured In Egypt Train Crash

LAGOS MARCH 27TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Dozens have been killed and over a hundred people injured when two trains collided in central Egypt on Friday, according to the country’s health ministry.

The rail authority said that quote, “unknown individuals” triggered the emergency brakes on one of the trains causing it to stop.

The second train, which was traveling in the same direction, crashed into the first from behind.

Chaotic scenes have been shared on social media.

One passenger filmed people were pulled from the wreckage by their fellow travellers.

“Help us, people are dying’ he pleaded.

This onlooker, called for help for the injured.

“We need an official to come see what has happened. They can’t remove the people from underneath the trains. It’s a shame. Look at the children! We need a crane (but they said) it is in Asyut. People are dead. We can’t even save the ones who are alive!”

The public prosecutor’s office says is investigating the crash which took place near the town of Tahta, about 230 miles south of Cairo.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi mourned the victims of the crash in a statement posted on his official social media and said those responsible would be punished.

Egypt has one of the oldest and largest rail networks in the region and accidents involving casualties are common.
