LAGOS JULY 9TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites, on Tuesday, invaded the National Assembly complex premises, resulting in an exchange with security operatives.
Soures revealed that the protesting Shiites members in their numbers broke down the first gate and proceeded to the second, which serves as the main entrance to the complex in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
The Shittes members clashed with security operatives on the ground, who repelled the protest with gunshots fired into the air to disperse the protesters.
A report by The Nation however disclosed the protesters reportedly shot at least two security operatives at the National Assembly complex.
Another report alleged that they burnt some vehicles parked close to the gate while more security operatives are being deployed to the scene.
The Shiites members, are protesting the continued detention of their leader, Ibrahim Elzakzaky.
