LAGOS NOVEMBER 12TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Rescue teams have raced to the scene after a Turkish military cargo aircraft crashed in Georgia.
The C130 plane plummeted to the ground at the Georgia-Azerbaijan border, according to officials. The Republic of Türkiye Ministry of National Defence wrote on X: “One of our C130 military cargo aircraft, which was taking off from Azerbaijan to come to our country, has crashed at the Georgia-Azerbaijan border.
“Search and rescue operations have begun in coordination with the authorities of Azerbaijan and Georgia. It is respectfully announced to the public.” It is currently not clear how many crew were on board the aircraft at the time.
Officials from the NATO state confirmed that both Georgia and Azerbaijan officials are helping with the search and rescue efforts. The cause of the horror was not immediately clear.
Smoke was gushing from the aircraft as it spun in circles falling from the sky. As it descended, a trail of white smoke could be seen. The crash was in the Rustavi region of Georgia, according to the Turkish media, about 100 miles from the Russian border.
C-130 military cargo aircraft are regularly used by Turkish armed forces for transporting personnel. The are often flown to handle the country’s logistical operations.
One report said: “Details regarding the plane’s departure point, the number of personnel it was carrying and its route remain unclear at this time.”
