Strike: Customs Agents Shun 20% Tariff Reduction
LAGOS MAY 4TH (NEWSRANGERS)-The Association Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has rejected the 20 percent reduction in tariff being put forward by the two handling companies in the aviation industry, Skyway Aviation Handling Company SAHCO and Nigerian Aviation Handling Company NAHCO.
At a meeting held Tuesday to resolve the issues between the agents and the handling companies, the companies reduced the charges by 20 percent but the agents insisted on 50 percent reduction
Davies Ben Chukwunenye, the vice chairman of ANCLA said the agents rejected the 80 percent put forward before them adding that the strike continues
Davies said they will only agree on 50 percent, adding that there was no where in the world where 100 percent is allowed
A week ago, customs clearing agents embarked on strike over the introduction of 100 percent cargo increase.
The agents say thay have lost over ₦6bn since the last commencement of the strike.
The two handling companies have said the increase is as a result of high cost of operations and acquisition of equipment.
