Security Operatives Invade Gunmen Hideout In Anambra, Recover 19IEDs
LAGOS DECEMBER 29TH (NEWSRANGERS)-Joint security forces, led by the Anambra State Police Command, have destroyed a camp allegedly operated by unknown gunmen in Nimo community, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.
The camp, located in a bush called Owa Land, was reportedly used as a launch pad for attacks across the state and a hideout for kidnapping victims.
Concerned by the presence of unfamiliar individuals, community leaders petitioned authorities and enlisted the help of soldiers, who began patrolling the area. Acting on intelligence, security operatives launched an assault on the camp in the early hours of December 24, 2024, leading to an intense gun battle that lasted several hours.
Confirming the operation, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Tochukwu Ikenga, stated:
“In the early hours of December 24, 2024, a joint security operation led by the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the Military, Civil Defence, and Anambra Vigilante operatives, successfully dismantled a criminal camp in Nimo, Njikoka LGA.
“The operation resulted in the destruction of makeshift structures, recovery of 19 unexploded improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and inflicted significant injuries on fleeing suspects.”
Ikenga added that the operation was based on credible intelligence and information obtained from suspects arrested in ongoing security operations across the state.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, commended the synergy among security agencies and applauded the public for providing actionable intelligence. He emphasized the need for continued collaboration to sustain security during and after the festive season.
The Commissioner urged private and public hospitals to report patients with bullet wounds or related injuries to the nearest police station promptly.
The police command assured residents of continued security patrols and targeted operations to maintain peace and security throughout the yuletide season.
